Shura Lipovsky joins the IJMF2017 Jury

The third distinguished jury member IJMF2017 who can be announced is Shura LipovskyShura LIPOVSKY (zwart-wit) Shura Lipovsky, who is known worldwide as one of the experts in Jewish Music and played a vital role in the revival of the Yiddish song repertoire joins our IJMF jury also for the 2017 concours. As a singer, a story teller (Magid) and a writer of new Yiddish songs, she performed in Carnegie Hall New York, Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, Salle Gaveau in Paris and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
She has been a regular guest at the Krakow and Amsterdam Jewish Music Festivals and she recently opened the ‘Bonner KlezmerTage’ in Germany with a new program of Sephardic songs, in September 2016.
Shura Lipovsky teaches Yiddish Song-repertoire and workshops ‘The Meditative Voice’ she developed this course, based on her research on the power of Nigunim (mystical melodies) and of Kabbalistic/Chassidic philosophy. She is internationally active in peace work and an ambassador of Musicians Without Borders, based in the Netherlands.
Shura Lipovsky has been featured in various documentaries such as ‘Yiddish is my instrument’, ‘Wandering Muse’, ‘Yiddish Soul’ and ‘Journey 4 Artists’.
5 CD’s have been released so far of which the most recent album VayTinKe (with traditional and new Yiddish songs by Lipovsky) was received with most respectful reviews by the (inter)national press.
