The 5th International Jewish Music Festival competition 2017 was held from May 4-8th, 2017 in The Netherlands. It marked a double celebration year as this was the 20th International Jewish Music Festival (the unique all genre Jewish Music Festival) held in Amsterdam.

Overall 2017 winners were the French based Sutzkever Project, the duo Melanie Gardyn and Natacha Medvedeva with their unique presentation of the poems by famous Yiddish Poet Avrom Sutzkever set on music by composer Olivier Milhaud. The Audience Prize went to Finnish group Sheine Ite with singer Jenny Liebkind who treated the 1000 persons audience in the DeLaMar theater to a lively high quality set.

Other winners included Nani (Sephardic Award Cordoba Festival), Dance of Fire Quartet (CIA Award), The Astor Klezmer Trio (MerkAz Award), Simple Light (Mandatory Composition), Big Galut(e) (Simcha Award) and Mojse Band (YouTube Award).

There also were special performances throughout the festival by former IJMF winners Vira Lozinsky and Yoed Sorek. During the Grand Finale Israel’s diva Shiri Maimon and her band gave a full concert after the intermission.
